 Note from DS Kathleen Greetings Crest to Coast Missional District, Recentl=
y Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth announced the new Superintendent Team starting=
 July 1, 2026. (See full announcement below.) We are so blessed that the Re=
v. Katie Ladd and the Rev. Bruce Smith said =E2=80=9Cyes=E2=80=9D to doing =
this new thing. They bring loads of experience, unique gifts, and a heart f=
or serving the church that will serve Crest to Coast and the entire confere=
nce well. I stand ready to support them as they move into these new roles, =
and I pray you will too. Many have asked me some clarifying questions =E2=
=80=93 =E2=80=9Cwhat=E2=80=99s next for you?=E2=80=9D, =E2=80=9Cwhen does t=
his all start?=E2=80=9D, =E2=80=9Chow will this all work?=E2=80=9D and more=
! While there are lots of questions, there are not a ton of answers. I rema=
in in this superintendent role until July 1, 2026, and will remain your poi=
nt of contact. I am working with our District Leadership Team to become a c=
ohesive team so that when Rev. Katie and Rev. Bruce start, they are ready t=
o support them. In the meantime, join me in holding it all lightly =E2=80=
=93 the new vision for superintending and all the details surrounding it - =
allowing the Spirit to guide us (and the Bishop too) as we do a new thing. =
Over the coming year, we (you and me together) will start to do things diff=
erently to help prepare ourselves and our churches for this shift. The most=
 important thing that we can do right now is to pray. Please be in prayer f=
or Rev. Ladd and Rev. Smith as they spend time forming as a team. Please be=
 in prayer for Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth as he leads us through significan=
t change. Please pray for the other superintendent teams =E2=80=93 especial=
ly ones in the Seattle Tacoma District that will start this July. And pleas=
e pray for your own faith community, that you too might do something new an=
d different. With peace and hope, Kathleen Weber Bishop Bridgeforth announc=
es appointments to Crest to Coast District Superintendency Team to start Ju=
ly of 2026 Bishop Cedrick D. Bridgeforth intends to appoint Rev. Katie Ladd=
 and Rev. Bruce Smith to a superintendency team overseeing the Crest to Coa=
st District beginning July 1, 2026. Rev. Kathleen Weber will continue to se=
rve as Crest to Coast District Superintendent through the next appointment =
year before ending her tenure in the role. Additionally, Bishop Bridgeforth=
 intends to appoint Rev. Smith as pastor of Camas United Methodist Church i=
n Camas, Washington, and as interim pastor of Trinity United Methodist Chur=
ch in Portland, Oregon, beginning July 1, 2025. His appointment to Trinity =
UMC will be for the next appointment year, after which he will join the sup=
erintendency team while continuing as pastor of Camas UMC. Rev. Ladd will c=
ontinue to serve in her current appointment to Queen Anne United Methodist =
Church in Seattle, Washington, where she has pastored since 2011. In Decemb=
er, Bishop Bridgeforth announced that he would initiate a new supervision m=
odel for the Greater Northwest Area. The superintendency team for the SeaTa=
c Missional District, the first district to shift into this model, was anno=
unced in February. The team that will serve the Puget Sound Missional Distr=
ict starting in July 2026 was announced in April. In sharing the news of th=
ese new appointments with their current churches, Bishop Bridgeforth wrote,=
 =E2=80=9CYou know the many gifts your pastor brings to every space. Imagin=
e how other congregations and communities will flourish as they experience =
those gifts.=E2=80=9D Asking them to pray for Revs. Ladd and Smith, the bis=
hop noted, =E2=80=9C[t]his model of pastors serving as part-time superinten=
dents to form a team is new and different, but it is a challenge we face to=
gether.=E2=80=9D Adopting this new model is one way Bishop Bridgeforth hope=
s to align conference leadership with a desire raised during the Ministry P=
riority conversations last year for leadership =E2=80=9Ccloser to the groun=
d.=E2=80=9D Another step toward the goal of announcing superintendency team=
s in the Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences When he first annou=
nced the new superintendency model in December, the bishop promised to shar=
e the anticipated transitions of the district superintendents across the Or=
egon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences. He also expressed his desire =
to announce superintendency appointments that will be fixed this June and i=
n 2026, as he did. With this announcement, Bishop Bridgeforth is taking the=
 next step in naming leaders who will move into these roles. This will give=
 those beginning their service in 2026 additional time to prepare and learn=
 from those who will first live into this new model this appointment year. =
In the coming weeks, he expects to name additional superintendency teams fo=
r the other districts where transitions are expected in 2026. This new mode=
l of shared superintendency continues our area=E2=80=99s commitment to inno=
vation in leadership and care for local churches, offering both continuity =
and creativity in service as we share the good news in a Wesleyan way. Anti=
cipation and gratitude expressed by the upcoming Crest to Coast Superintend=
ency Team As part of the continued evolution of leadership across the Great=
er Northwest Area and in the Pacific Northwest Conference, Rev. Bruce Smith=
 and Rev. Katie Ladd will serve together in this shared superintendency rol=
e. Their appointment reflects a growing movement within the Church toward m=
ore collaborative, relational, and contextual models of ministry=E2=80=94on=
es that mirror the very nature of Christ=E2=80=99s call to community and tr=
ansformation. With deep gratitude for the opportunity, Rev. Bruce Smith sha=
res his vision for ministry in this new role: =E2=80=9CI am honored and exc=
ited to have the opportunity to serve the Annual Conference as a Superinten=
dent. While the church is continually changing, I am optimistic that the 21=
st-century church will grow as we continue to participate in God=E2=80=99s =
transformation of the world. What we shall be has yet to be revealed, but w=
e know we shall be like Christ, whom we follow.=E2=80=9D Rev. Katie Ladd se=
es this appointment not only as a shift in structure but also a return to t=
he Church=E2=80=99s relational roots: =E2=80=9CJesus called his disciples i=
nto community; he sent them in pairs to serve as community. This new model =
of superintendency returns us to that deeply relational way of being church=
. By remaining in a congregation, serving with Bruce, meeting new people, a=
nd supporting congregations, we are being called into community where liber=

Revs. Ladd and Smith bring complementary gifts and a shared hope for the Ch=
urch=E2=80=99s future=E2=80=94one rooted in the belief that meaningful conn=
ection, faithful service, and openness to transformation can guide the Chur=
ch into its next faithful chapter. Getting to Know your Incoming =EF=BB=BFC=
rest to Coast Superintendency Team Rev. Katie M Ladd is passionate about ne=
w/old ways of being church; that is, learning from the wisdom of our spirit=
ual ancestors while innovating for today=E2=80=99s world. She came from the=
 South to the PNW in 1996. A graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman=E2=80=99s Col=
lege with degrees in biology and religion, she worked in environmental chem=
istry before receiving her MDiv from Vanderbilt University. Katie=E2=80=99s=
 passions include interfaith/ecumenical work, public theology, empowering l=
aity, and spiritual formation. She lives in Tacoma with her wife Melissa an=
d her kitty George, and she currently serves Queen Anne UMC and its intenti=
onal community, The Well. Rev. Bruce Smith was born and raised in the Pacif=
ic Northwest. After graduating from Washington State University in 1992, he=
 attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Grad=
uating in 1996, he served two circuits for the Methodist Church in the Unit=
ed Kingdom.  Bruce has served appointments in the PNW Conference at Davenpo=
rt Edwall, Longview, Vancouver Mill Plain, Yakima Wesley and Vancouver Firs=
t. He has served the PNWAC on the Camping Board of Stewards, the 2008 Juris=
dictional Conference delegation, the chair of the Order of Elders, the Boar=
